The Fertility Doula is an advanced course designed for Madriella Professional Members who wish to expand their knowledge and develop the skills needed to support individuals and couples navigating fertility challenges. This course provides a compassionate, evidence-informed overview of fertility support while remaining firmly within the non-medical scope of Doula practice.
Fertility struggles can be emotionally, physically, and financially overwhelming. Many clients face feelings of grief, uncertainty, frustration, anxiety, and isolation while trying to conceive or undergoing fertility treatments. This course prepares Doulas to provide meaningful emotional support, practical guidance, advocacy assistance, and informed referrals throughout the fertility journey.
Throughout the course, students will explore the foundations of reproductive health and fertility awareness, including ovulation tracking, menstrual cycle patterns, basal body temperature charting, cervical mucus observations, and identifying the fertile window. Students will also learn how stress, nutrition, lifestyle factors, and emotional well-being can influence reproductive health.
The course includes detailed instruction on Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ART), including Intrauterine Insemination (IUI), In Vitro Fertilization (IVF), egg freezing, and surrogacy. Doulas will learn how these procedures work, what clients commonly experience during treatment cycles, and how to provide effective emotional and practical support during each stage of the process.
Students will also explore holistic approaches to fertility support, including stress management, mind-body techniques, mindfulness practices, visualization, relaxation exercises, and fertility-focused self-care strategies. The course emphasizes the importance of supporting clients in a balanced and ethical manner while encouraging collaboration with licensed healthcare professionals, therapists, nutritionists, and holistic practitioners when appropriate.
Special attention is given to the emotional realities of fertility care, including grief, miscarriage, failed treatment cycles, difficult decision-making, and navigating setbacks. Doulas will learn communication strategies that foster emotional resilience, compassionate listening, and client empowerment during vulnerable moments.
In addition to fertility support skills, this course includes practical guidance for Doulas interested in incorporating fertility support into their professional services. Topics include defining scope of practice, building referral networks, collaborating with fertility clinics and healthcare providers, marketing fertility support services, and maintaining professional boundaries and self-care practices.
The course concludes with practical applications and case studies designed to help students apply what they have learned to realistic client scenarios. These exercises strengthen problem-solving abilities, communication skills, and confidence in supporting diverse client needs.
Fertility Support for Doulas is intended as a continuing education opportunity for Madriella Doulas seeking to broaden their understanding of fertility-related care and expand the range of support they can offer to clients. This course does not certify Doulas to provide medical treatment, diagnose fertility conditions, or replace licensed healthcare professionals. Instead, it equips Doulas with the tools to provide compassionate, informed, client-centered support during one of the most emotionally significant journeys many individuals and families will experience.
