Maura Jo Lynch began her work as a birth professional in early December of 2006 with her partner and nursling in tow as she attended her rigorous three-day training to become a Doula. Maura Jo quickly realized that her Doula clients could be getting so much more if only she were teaching classes, and she began her training as a Childbirth Educator in 2007. Amidst all this birth energy, she announced to her first childbirth ed class that she, too, was “in the family way.” She attended her sixth required birth three weeks prior to the birth of her own second child and completed her final exam while her then six week old slept comfortably, head resting on mom’s shoulder. Fifteen months later, Maura Jo got her second Childbirth Educator certification, this time through CAPPA. She was one of the first in the US to become a Certified Pregnancy Fitness Educator and holds an additional Perinatal Fitness certificate. She is a certified Hypnobabies HypnoDoula, GentleBirth Educator and Hypnosis, Mindset and Mindfulness Instructor to better support the unique needs of clients trained in GentleBirth, Hypnobirth, Hypnobabies, and other hypnosis-related techniques. In December of 2015, she completed the rigorous training to become the state’s fourth Certified Birth and Bereavement Doula through StillBirthDay.
She has a Rebozo Credential through Gena Kirby’s program. She is a GentleBirth Certified Educator, an Evidence Based Birth ® Instructor, a Certified Herbalist, Reiki Master/Teacher and spent many years teaching at the university level, becoming Semifinalist for the prestigious Excellence in Teaching Award at CCSU. Tutoring and mentoring doulas and other birth workers is another strand of her work. She also offers continuing educational opportunities for birth professionals both virtually and in person. One of the most unique programs she offers is an 8 Week Mentorship program for expectant families. Homebirth, VBAC, LGBTQ+, and families dealing with loss all have a special place in her work as well. She looks forward to talking with you and family about your upcoming birth!
